Fake it til You Make It: What Are You Doing to Make Your Dreams Come True?

It's 2014, the New Year has come and gone. It's February (where did the time go?!) and most people have given up on their NY resolutions by now. If you're sticking with your resolution, good for you. To make your dream come true, you have to work it.

I was recently reading about a man who gave up his job to live in a van. No this isn't Matt Foley, it's Rashid Williams, a NFL hopeful whose currently training so he can try out for the NFL combine this April. Rashid emptied out all of his savings and quit his job as a Frito-Lay rep. He's living out of his van to curtail expenses as he trains at the TEST Parisi Football Academy in their combine prep program. He hasn't played football since high school and recently went back to college at Penn State to get his MBA. He has put all his eggs in one basket. Can this 26 year old prevail?

And here's the opposite side of this story when following your dreams doesn't work out. Dick Costolo wanted to be a stand up comedian.  He did perform stand up for years, he went to SNL try outs and he got to work with many talented comedians including Steve Carrell. In the end he went back into the tech field and today, he's the CEO of Twitter and worth around $430 million.

Now this is mainly a film blog, so to touch onto the industry, we all know of someone who has "plans" to make a movie or the person who moved to LA to "make-it" as a screenwriter or actor. Will they make it? Maybe. The law of averages says no.
But my point is, if you do want to write a screenplay, start writing it today. You don't need software (yet), just grab a pad of paper and a pen.
Want to make a movie, grab a camera or hire someone who has one and start to film something.

This year, I'm making drastic changes in my life as it's more than likely I'm moving out West before the end of the year. I've been working in the film industry in 2008 and I'm finally making some real strides towards my goals.

What can you learn from each of their stories?
1. It's never gonna be the perfect time. Start now. Start before you're ready. Fake it til you make.
2. There's only so many "tomorrows."
3. There is a 'cut-off' point. A point where they realize it's time to go another route and maybe you were put onto this planet for some other reason.
